Welcome to The Perimenopausal Homeschooler series! Here I share some of my favorite tips for homeschooling and managing life with young children despite those lovely perimenopausal symptoms. At least when I remember. {wink} If you're new to this series, you may want to start here. {This is not just for homeschoolers. It just so happens that homeschooling is what I do with my days.}
A common statement among women who are in their perimenopausal years is that they don't remember who they are any more and that they never have time for themselves. Sound familiar?

We tend to get caught up in the busyness of caring for our children, husband, and the home and forget that we have needs that we are neglecting. We get tired. We get run down. We are overcome by stress. If left unattended, our bodies begin to cry out by getting sick.
Years ago I read in Dr. John Lee's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones and Your Life From Thirty to FiftyImage may be NSFW.

I thought it sounded a little far-fetched that engaging in a creative outlet would help a hormonal problem… until I tried it. It really does help!

I know what you're thinking. You don't have time to {insert creative activity}. You have little ones to care for, or big ones to homeschool, or…
What I am suggesting does not have to involve lots of time. When I began trying this solution, I tried to engage in something creative and relaxing for 5 to 10 minutes of the day. That's it.

And it can be anything! Knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, sewing, writing, baking, photography… Anything that you enjoy. Just do something that feels creative to you for a few minutes most days and see if you begin to feel better. See if you begin to feel more in touch with you.
Of course, engaging in a creative activity is always more fun with girlfriends. {Am I right?} To encourage all of us to take the time for a little creative pleasure- and bring a little girlfriend show and tell into the mix- I will be starting a monthly link up where we can all share what we have been creating. The link up will be hosted here as well as on my knitting and crochet blog.
This link up will be for more than just bloggers! Link up your Craftsy project page, your Ravelry project page, a flickr photo, etc. All I ask is that it be more than just a picture. Tell us a bit about your creative outlet or why it relaxes you. Sometimes all we need is a little inspiration to get us going.
The link up will be the last Wednesday of the month– starting on January 27th. {Only I don't have a name yet, so if you have any amazing ideas, please leave it in the comments or come tell me on Facebook. Image may be NSFW.

Do you feel as if you've lost yourself? Do you feel as if you have no time for you?
If you have any questions about managing life or homeschooling in the midst of perimenopause, please leave your question in the comments.We can share with one another the things that we have found helpful, or not so helpful. There's power in numbers, ladies!
